2 Great Self-Care Ideas That Will Help You in The Long Run
Find the proper ritual for yourself and your needs and build your day around emotional self-care
Self-care allows us to maintain healthy mental health and allows us to take our overall well-being into consideration on daily basis.
It’s important to remember that self-care can look different for others and it is ok because we are all on a different paths in life, and therefore we have different ways we take care of ourselves.
Self-care doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Choose activities that you are comfortable with and switch them up every so often.
Moving Your Body Daily
As I am getting older, I wish that I would have done this more often and more as a daily routine. Now I can feel that I am in no shape at all, with a limited range of motion, and being a mom of a 1-year-old brings me a lot of running, crawling, jumping, bending, and so on, and I can feel it in my joints, and my bones, that I have been slacking a lot.
There are a lot of good reasons why we all need to move daily, and here are a few of them — more energy, better sleep, healthy muscles and bones, and better mood, and these are just a few.
And by saying that we all need to move our bodies daily, I don’t mean going to the gym every day and working ourselves up, I am talking about walking, running, stretching, yoga, and other things where we can start slow and build up from there.
Yes, a little rest and relaxation is fine, but living a completely sedentary life, can and will become dangerous to your overall health. And increasing your physical endurance and activity can help lower serious health risks.
Start with a brisk 20-minute walk, 2–3 times per week, and then gradually increase the activity level, and remember that it is never too late to start.
Practicing Positive Thinking
Life gets so busy that we forget about ourselves on daily basis, and we all forget that we all have an incredible resource at our disposal, and it is our mindset. There is a link between having an incredible attitude in life, toward everything, and getting a positive outcome in life, but for the most part, we don’t take our time or make an effort to appreciate everything we have that we can use, to increase many aspects in our life.
Having a great mindset, and creating positive thinking as a daily thing takes time, patience, and practice. These things require us to avoid negative energy and involve dedicating time to create positive energy and therefore, increase positive thinking. And yes, with a lot of information out there, it can become easy to get super overwhelmed when taking the first steps towards bettering yourself.
But as in everything else in life, taking small steps, doing one thing at a time, changing one aspect, and taking yourself into consideration on daily basis is a great first step.
“As important as it is to have a plan for doing work, it is perhaps more important to have a plan for rest, relaxation, self-care, and sleep.” — Akiroq Brost
